Quality assurance

Avoid window surveying mistakes: the most common causes

Measurement errors cost more than time. They cause queries, unnecessary trips, rework and, in the worst case, claims. Many of these issues do not start on site but from a lack of structure in the workflow.

The most common sources of error in window surveying

Incomplete measuring points

If only one value per side is recorded, taper, tolerances and irregular openings stay invisible.

Missing documentation of special conditions

Junctions, slopes, breakouts or installation situations are forgotten and only reappear at ordering or installation.

Manual transfer mistakes

Copying from notes and loose photos increases the risk of swapped values or wrong position assignment.

What impact such errors have

  • • Delays in quotes and preparation
  • • Queries between site, office and installation
  • • Re-measure visits and duplicate work
  • • Claims when orders are wrong or dimensions unclear

How to reduce the risk significantly

  1. Use fixed input masks and a clear sequence.
  2. Make several measuring points per opening mandatory.
  3. Store photos, notes and dimensions together on the same position.
  4. Run a plausibility check before closing.
  5. Hand the dataset to the office or ERP without retyping.
